Deputy Roy Le Hérissier launched an attack on Social Security Minister Paul Routier in the States yesterday, claiming that he was just talking about the imminent huge increase in the number of old people and not acting.

Deputy Le Hérissier, who told the House that he was not satisfied with the relaxed attitude of Senator Paul Routier to such a serious issue, raised the issue of what arrangements there were for long-term care for the elderly.

Senator Routier replied that arrangements were being made with Health and Social Services to come up with a plan for the future.

He explained that a ‘demographic bulge’ of older people would emerge in seven or eight years time.
