Bellozanne ‘now close to total breakdown’

The plant is regularly running on one or two of three waste streams and is costing £100,000 a year to maintain just in pipe replacement.

Senator Frank Walker says that emissions have reached an unacceptable level and that the plant is well past its shelf life.

In three weeks States Members will debate a proposal to build a new plant at La Collette in a project likely to cost £80 million, and Senator Walker says the issue has to be brought to a close.

‘We need to press ahead with the energy-from-waste plant,’ he said.

‘The level of emissions is unacceptable and there is a danger.

The plant is beyond its stated life-expectancy.
