Craig Gascoyne, an English Table Tennis Association high performance coach, will take up the position in September adding to the number of quality sports development officers Jersey now has.
The 23-year-old international player, who has represented England and Scotland in major world events since the age of 15, also has an impressive coaching cv.
Gascoyne, who is currently taking final MSc Sport Development exams at Sheffield’s Hallam University, coached England’s junior team to a gold medal in the Six Nations Championships in Belfast last year where his cadet and junior players also excelled to win gold.
Jersey Table Tennis Association president Chris Band said: ‘I’m thrilled we’ve managed to get someone of Craig’s calibre as our sports development officer, and everyone on Council is very impressed too.
‘Craig was in Jersey recently for discussions and we saw him at work with junior players from St Lawrence School who were doing a project on Commonwealth Games sports.
‘He certainly impressed us and the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves.’
