Milly (18), who works for Alcindo Pinto’s firm, the Little Green Man, was trained by Ian Averty of Channel Island Tree Services.
Mr Averty explained that proper training to use a chainsaw was now required under health and safety rules, but until now approved trainers had to brought over from the UK – so he decided to become one himself.
‘Since January I’ve trained up to 40 people,’ he said.
‘But Milly is the first woman.
Although women may not have the strength, there are ways around that.
Milly is hoping to go on in the industry by studying an arboricultural course in the UK.
