Many flights were cancelled and others were delayed for as much as 48 hours, leaving passengers fuming – and some tourists vowing never to return to the Island.
Jersey resident Shirley Tadier (66), who had been visiting family in Carlisle, was due to fly back to the Island last Thursday.
But she suffered an epic travel ordeal which included two flights, five aborted landings and a journey of more than 2,000 miles – and she still never made it home.
Mrs Tadier, who runs a tortoise sanctuary in St Helier, twice boarded a plane bound for Jersey – but twice found herself back in Teeside.
She was taken by bus to Birmingham for one of the flights, only to be flown back to the north-east.
Mrs Tadier had been due to fly back out of Jersey on Tuesday for a wedding, and under the circumstances, she has decided to stay in the UK.
