The merger will take effect at the beginning of September with the creation of a combined group called Appleby Hunter Bailhache with offices in Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, London, Hong Kong and of course Jersey.
In advance of the merger, Bailhache Labesse, which employs more than 130 people, was ranked third in size among Island legal practices.
After alliance with Appleby Spurling Hunter, which has more than 430 employees, it will become a major international player in a move which the firm’s management committee chairman, Mike O’Connell, has described as a ‘dramatic moment in the offshore legal world’.
