Island-based businessman Bob Morton owns two finalists in tomorrow’s Derby for canine thoroughbreds, but he is hot favourite to win with Westmead Hawk, who picked up the trophy last year.
The canine is said to be the best in the modern era and has even been credited with pulling in a new audience for the sport.
Mr Morton’s wife, Sue, said: ‘As a family, we’ve owned group-class racehorses and have had a horse run well in the Derby at Epsom.
But we’re having so much fun with Hawk.
He’s a legend in his own lifetime.
You get the impression that most people come to see him.
It’s incredible.’
