Mr Tapies, who was elected international president of Relais and Châteaux in November 2005, was speaking in Jersey recently during his visit to present the group’s annual Welcome Trophy to the Longueville Manor Hotel, a member of the group for the past 34 years.
He is an Andorran, and the owner of the El Castell de Ciutat Relais and Châteaux Hotel, located in Seu d’Urgell on the Andorran and Spanish border.
He said: ‘Jersey can only win the battle to have a successful tourism industry by going after the good quality sector of the market.
Success shouldn’t be measured by increased tourist numbers.
