Board battle looms at Southampton

Mr Wilde, a long-term fan of Southampton Football Club, wants to oust five of the nine directors of the company and install himself and four others in their place.

He has recently increased his shareholding to gain the right to call the extraordinary general meeting.

Southampton FC was relegated at the end of last season and Mr Wilde wants to see it return to the Premiership.

He believes the club needs the board changes and is urging shareholders to support the move.

But in a letter to shareholders on Monday the current chairman, Rupert Lowe, asks Mr Wilde to answer a number of questions about his future plans for the company and why he believes his board will run the company more effectively.

Mr Lowe says that up until now the board has not been fully informed about Mr Wilde’s intentions.
