Even the traditional coffee and biscuits after church were replaced with a kick-around in the grounds.
The idea to celebrate all things football belonged to the Rev Billy Slatter, who asked everyone to turn up for yesterday’s service wearing some sort of football-themed outfit.
Sporting hymns were sung, including one which had been specially written to the theme tune of Match of the Day.
