Mr Mière was a young man in the Occupation, and dedicated his life to ensuring that the stories of those who lived through the Occupation would not be forgotten.

For many years he was curator of the Jersey War Tunnels – then known as the German Underground Hospital.

In 2003 he was chosen as the subject of the Jersey Citizen’s Trust Citizen Portrait.

He was honoured by the Russian government in 2004 for helping wartime slave workers, and last year he received the Croix de l’Europe from the Confédération Européenne des Anciens Combattants for his resistance during the Occupation.

He was also the author of the book Never To Be Forgotten, about Jersey during the Occupation.
