Flaming June lives up to its name

Thousands of Islanders have been out making the most of the 139 hours of sunshine recorded since 1 June.

This total has been exceeded just once before, in 1962, when 140 hours were recorded.

Such a flaming start to the month kicked off on bank holiday Monday, 29 May, after a lengthy period of fog and several days of Airport delays.

In the 13 days following, a provisional total of 180 hours of sunshine was recorded – an average of almost 14 hours a day.
