Town Constable in new move to close down compost site

Despite Transport Minister Guy de Faye’s insistence that only evidence of health problems would convince him to shut down the composting site, Simon Crowcroft will go to his parishioners on Monday with a proposition to request the plant to be closed.

He says that while the health argument may not have been conclusively proved, the composting plant is causing inconvenience, nuisance and distress to his parishioners and should be shut down.

‘Whatever arguments may be addu-ced by the ministers of Transport and Health to prove that the composting operations at the site pose no threat to human health, there is no doubt that the odours created by the States composting operations are causing nuisance, inconvenience and distress and substantially affecting the quality of life of many of St Helier’s parishioners,’ says Mr Crowcroft.
