The team – which includes a French captain, a Belgian, a Guernseyman and five Jerseymen – was selected by the committee of the Jersey Freshwater Fishing Association based on results and ability.
Team member and selector Greig Brown said that people fish better in some situations than others, and many local sports fishermen travel to France on a regular basis.
‘We don’t get a lot of opportunities to practise here in Jersey, so we go to France,’ he said.
‘Thierry, our team captain, has a tackle shop in Dol de Bretagne, and we’ve got to know him well.
He offered to help us and he’ll be very useful because he has local knowledge of the area we’ll be fishing, in the river Vilaine.’ Competition takes place on 24 and 25 June, with five practice days, starting on Monday.
The CI team is: Greig Brown, Graham Carver, Melvyn Hales, David Copperwaite (Gsy), Andy Gray, Paul Nixon, Thierry Theaudin (Fr) and Patrick Weekers (Belgium).
A CI team will also compete in the World Championships in Portugal in September.
