More than 1,000 fans flooded the streets and Minden Place became the focal point for a mini-carnival.
Supporters invaded every level of the car park, waving flags and singing songs.
In true continental style, the roads were with jammed with cars as fans beeped horns and paraded through the town.
Cheapside was transformed into a mini-Madeira, with people hanging out of windows, draping flags and banging pots and pans.
Some supporters even drove up and down Victoria Avenue tooting horns constantly, just in case anyone on the outskirts of town or in St Aubin was not aware of the Portuguese victory.
