Peak time for child accidents

Figures show that more than 800 children attended during the early summer months as a direct result of an accident – with just over 4,000 admissions throughout the year, a figure in line with the previous year.

The co-ordinator of Child Accident Prevention Jersey, Lou-ise Hamilton, said that there were a number of reasons why figures for June and July were so high.

She said: ‘It is likely that there were more children attending at that time because of the general trend of good weather, school holidays, children spending more time outside and being more active.

‘Also, there may have been more people in Jersey at that time and getting out and about rather than staying at home.’
