Health jobs hindered by new UK rules

Chief executive Mike Pollard said that MPs at Westminster and the General Medical Council were failing to consider the different systems operating in places such as Jersey.

He explained new rules and regulations meant barriers were inadvertently being thrown up which made recruitment difficult.

For example, non-EU doctors must work in the UK for five years on a highly skilled migrant visa before being able to stay permanently.

If they come to Jersey after three years of that contract, the time they spend working in the Island does not count towards that five years and they may lose the three years already accrued.
