Move to make nurseries more accessible

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft was deeply critical of the Senator Vibert’s early-years policy as he successfully sought to amend the Strategic Plan to include a commitment not only to give parents access to affordable nursery education, but also to make the access ‘equitable’.

The issue of nursery provision prompted a Royal Square protest by parents at the start of the debate on the Strategic Plan, and hundreds of parents also attended a public meeting last year at the Town Hall.

Mr Crowcroft said that many parents were having to pay for nursery places while others were lucky enough to get their children into free primary school nurseries.

He claimed Senator Vibert’s promises to address the issue had amounted to nothing and that his policies were driving private nurseries out of business.
