His non-appearance prompted staff of St Helier’s community services department to write to Town Deputies urging them to ensure the Constable acts ‘appropriately or at least advise him of the correct way to behave’.
But the Constable said that although he was 20 minutes late, he did turn up.
‘I was stuck in traffic while taking my four-year-old to school and realised I wouldn’t make it in time.
I called up to say I would be late but when the message was passed on they just walked out,’ he said.
The Constable also said that the only purpose of the meeting was for the workers to hand over an ‘ultimatum letter’.
But the workers say the Constable’s behaviour was ‘contemptuous’ and they want to convey how ‘angry and frustrated’ they feel.
