Mr Macleod (36) was educated at St Mary’s School, Victoria College and Hautlieu School and joined the Co-op in 1990 as foodstore management trainee.
In 1997 he took on the newly created role of training and development manager and three years ago became responsible for human resources across the Channel Islands.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and of the Chartered Management Institute.
He will take on his new role in approximately 18 months when current retail controller Jim Hopley steps up to take the role of chief executive on the retirement of Allan Smith.
One of the initiatives introduced under Mr Macleod’s management, now in its fourth year, is the society’s staff suggestion scheme, which has so far issued £23,000 in rewards to staff for innovative ideas.
