Senator Wendy Kinnard released the figure following allegations by two former officers that anti-corruption inquiries were costing a fortune.

Nigel Gregory and Roy Gallichan, who resigned while facing or after disciplinary action, claimed inquiries into their alleged corrupt activities, had cost the States police more than £1 million.

Those investigations included months of covert surveillance using sophisticated listening devices and hidden cameras.
