Bowlers help CI to victory

Despite looking to be around 40 runs short of a decent total, the CI scored 189 for 8 in their 45 overs, they bowled well to record their second win in three games in the competition this season.

Dave Gorman top-scored with 41 for the hosts while an eighth-wicket partnership of 43 runs between Guernsey’s Ralph Anthony and Mike Kinder helped the CI push on at the finish of their innings.

Anthony and Jersey’s Keith Dennis and Greig Sykes all took two wickets while Kinder impressed conceding just 22 runs in his nine overs including two maidens and one wicket.

CI scorer Pauline Kelly said: ‘It was a fantastic game and we got out of jail in the end.

Devon were coasting with overs and wickets in hand but we turned the corner with some excellent tight bowling from Barry Middleton, Keith Dennis and Ralph Anthony.

‘Ralph and Mike Kinder’s batting partnership was crucial to us; it was a gritty team performance with a lot of thought put into the fielding positions and the effort in the stifling conditions was superb.’
