Parish Constable Simon Crowcroft wants to apply to the Queen for city status for the town – and says that the town’s strong royal connections could tip the scales in its favour.
‘My initial research seems to indicate that St Helier would fit the criteria, and in particular we have a very strong relationship with the Crown which the recent royal visits have strengthened,’ he said.
‘As the granting of city status lies within the prerogative of the Crown rather than the government, I would hope that an application would be looked on favourably.’
