The Council of Ministers will receive comments from Islanders to shape the final submission they make on the extension, which would see a third reactor added to the site which would become the biggest and most powerful ever built in France.
The Chief Minister’s Department have posted a 1,500 page technical report on their website, and have created an email address – Flamanville.consultation@gov.je – so that Islanders can register their views before 15 August.
Chief Minister Frank Walker said: ‘I hope that people in Jersey will respond to this consultation because it is a matter of great interest to all of us.
‘I will use the comments we get from our community to inform the final submission the Council of Ministers makes on behalf of Jersey.’ It was mistakenly reported by the Chief Minister’s Department some time ago that the extension had already been approved, but no decision has been taken.
The final decision on whether the 3.3 billion euro project goes ahead will be made by the French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin.
France has 50 nuclear power sites around the country and Jersey imports 95 per cent of its electricity from France through undersea cables.
As well as the website, copies of the technical report are available at the Library and at the Customer Services Centre in Cyril Le Marquand House.
