Five-year-old Alex Quintal was knocked over outside St Lawrence Stores a month ago and is still recovering in hospital.

Three hundred people have now signed a petition asking for something to be done to slow cars down as they go past the village shop, pub, church and school on Grande Route de St Laurent.

Alex’s parents Luz and Ricardo run the shop, which is next to the British Union on the main road.

Alex was hit by a car as he tried to cross the road outside St Lawrence Stores on Saturday 12 June.

The accident happened at 2.30 pm and he was taken to hospital with two broken legs.

‘We have got a petition going and we have over 300 people who have signed,’ Mrs Quintal said.

‘Everyone has been lovely.

I am trying to do something because I don’t want this to happen to anybody.

The petition asks for the Constable to do something abut the speed, either put in traffic lights or reduce the speed limit because a lot of people have been asking for years.’
