The accident happened on Vert Chemin, St Helier, when Mrs Hamon-Cole is thought to have left her Range Rover Discovery to pick up a broken wing mirror but had failed to apply the handbrake enough, if at all.

The car rolled backward, crushing her head between its rear off-side wing and a granite wall, as she tried to push it away from her.

A statement was read at the inquest from Phillip Graham, a motorist who was first at the scene between 1.30 pm and 1.45 pm on Saturday 20 May in the lane, which is between Grande Route de St Jean and Grande Route de Mont à l’Abbé.

Mr Graham said he saw Mrs Hamon-Cole standing behind the vehicle and, on approaching, he realised she was trapped between the car and the wall.

The driver’s door was open and the car’s engine was running.
