The store shares the site with a new 1,500 sq ft branch of the Wine Warehouse, although each of the outlets has its own entrance and parking area.
The two new shops are located immediately next to the Five Oaks service station.
Cathy Goldsmith, a spokesman for the Checkers and Wine Warehouse, both of which are owned by CI Traders, said: ‘This will be a fabulous addition for the area, and not just for motorists.
The great range of goods and services provided by the new stores will benefit all our customers at and around Five Oaks.
Meanwhile, work is continuing on the service station forecourt, also owned by CI Traders, where a car wash and pressure washing facilities will open in a month’s time.
