Senator Le Sueur will meet Amicus regional officer Mike Budd on 9 August to discuss putting safeguards into any deal to protect workers’ employment prospects and possible loss of employment benefits.
Amicus is the telecommunications union that represents part of the 464-strong Jersey Telecom workforce.
Senator Le Sueur signalled his intention to sell JT in a consultation document published this month.
Since then, Senator Ben Shenton has lodged a proposal calling for the States to enact legislation similar to that which protects workers’ terms and conditions in the UK before the sale goes through.
But the Treasury Minister says the principles of the UK Transfer of Undertakings Regulations can be written into a sale agreement, and a delay to agree a law would be unnecessary.
