Goose Green plan turned down

The controversial development plans sparked worries about traffic, noise, school places and flooding, and Environment Minister Freddie Cohen announced today that he had decided to turn it down.

The news has been greeted with delight by parishioners, who objected strongly to the proposals, while group head of marketing at Dandara, Christine Holmes, said that they would be seeking legal advice.

The company had hoped to build the social rental and first-time buyer homes on the edge of the marsh, in an area zoned for such housing by the States four years ago.

But States Members agreed last month that they felt that no more than 97 homes should be built there, and the application met considerable opposition at a public hearing.
