The Jersey Oyster Company want to build a shellfish processing unit in a field near La Rocque to stop them having to transport their produce five miles from Grouville Bay to Fliquet in order to process it.

The idea of the purpose-built plant got the approval of planning officers, as well as Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf, but the planning applications panel turned the application down in February.

It now falls to Environment Minister Freddie Cohen to have the final say, and his decision is due to be announced tomorrow.

Jersey Oyster Company director Steve Luce said they were hopeful, but not optimistic, over the potential outcome of their application to build the processing unit and 12-bedroom staff quarters in Field 571 on Rue du Puits Mahaut.
