From 5 October the fee will go from £51 to £66 to accommodate the cost of the new biometric chips which have to be contained in the document.
The fees were increased last November from £45 to £51, but the latest move is because of the requirements of the US immigration department.
Until now, the US has allowed all British citizens with a valid passport to enter the country without having to apply for a visa.
But any passports issued after 5 October must have the new biometric chip contained in it, otherwise the owner will be refused entry to the US.
However, anyone with an existing passport without a chip can continue using it, and have access into the US for the full life of the passport.
