It has been discovered that Littlewoods Shop Direct Ltd intends to introduce VAT to all of its customers in the Channel Islands.

Readers of the Jersey Evening Post’s sister paper The Guernsey Press and listeners to Guernsey’s Island FM are today being asked to text Fair Play and join the campaign.

So far over 250 people from Jersey have contacted Fair Play to add their support for fairer pricing from the company.

Over the past few weeks the Littlewoods Shop Direct group, which owns Kays, GUS and Great Universal catalogues among others, started writing to customers in the Channel Islands to warn them it was to start adding 17.5% VAT in September.

The group is giving the merger of Littlewoods and Shop Direct as the reason and saying it needs to bring all of its branches in line with each other.

As some already charged VAT before the merger, the group has decided to apply that rule to the rest.

l Anyone wishing to add their support to the campaign is asked to either text the word ‘Little’ to 0762 480 3210 (all texts charged at local rate) or e-mail their comments to fairplay@jerseyeveningpost.com.

Alternatively, they could call Fair Play on 611632 or write to Fair Play, Newsroom, Jersey Evening Post, Five Oaks, St Saviour, JE4 8XQ.
