The Ring Tailed Cat – originally conceived as a ladies’ ring holder but which became a general decorative piece – was relaunched by the Pottery this year to mark its 60th anniversary.
And last week it received a Highly Commended accolade at the Gift of the Year awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London when it was shortlisted from hundreds of entries in the Collect It Under £50 category and one of only four to be highly commended.
It was originally hand-made at the Pottery between 1955 and 1970.
Jersey Potteries director Jonathan Jones said: ‘We discovered the old pieces were being sold on eBay and had many requests to bring it back.
Now we’re making several hundred a week in three different colours – we supply a lot of shops in England and we’ve sold thousands of them.
‘The original intention was that it was a ring holder, but most people seem to buy them for decoration around their homes.
Following the award the cat will be used as a competition prize in several national magazines, said Mr Jones.
