David Warr claims that a shortage of parking is hitting St Helier traders hard.
‘Some businesses are experiencing their worst trading year for more than 20 years,’ the owner of tea and coffee specialists Coopers & Co in Halkett Place wrote in the Chamber online newsletter.
‘Their customers are telling them that it’s because it is so hard to find a space that they can no longer be bothered to come into town.
‘The point has been reiterated in the car parks trading account.
It reported that in 2005 paycard income fell by a whopping £1.07 million – down 26% on the previous year.
‘I presented a report to the then Public Services Committee way back in 2004 when I highlighted the fact that we had seen a decline in paycard sales in the order of 20%.
Sadly, no one took me seriously.’
