All ready to go!

The 10,000 seats for today’s event were sold out by yesterday afternoon and the seats for tomorrow night’s moonlight parade have almost all been snapped up.

But Battle officials say that there is still plenty of standing room, with tickets available at the entrance.

They clearly want to put aside any controversy over guest celebrities – there was a failed last-minute attempt to cancel a deal to bring glamour model Jodie Marsh and X-Factor singer Andy Abraham to the Island for the event – and they want everyone to go along and enjoy themselves.

The weather has come up trumps, and despite one or two delays the floats were all ready in the arena by 8.30 am.

For those taking part, however, it was still fingers crossed that all will go according to plan.

Volunteers were up for much of last night frantically glueing flowers to floats to have them ready for today’s parade, with some floats receiving a special inspection from dignitaries on escorted tours.

As well as the Lieut-Governor, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway, and Mrs Ridgway – in Jersey for their first Battle of Flowers – the guests included one young woman looking forward to the day even more than most – Jersey’s Miss Battle of Flowers Sinead Brennan .
