The nine volunteers were meant to fly to Nairobi via Heathrow yesterday, but team manager Sue Deans said the flight cancellations caused by terrorist arrests had disrupted their plans.
The group have raised £12,000 for the trip and are going to build a school in Kibos near Lake Victoria, not far from Kibway, where a Jersey group built a school last year.
Mrs Deans said getting hold of the volunteers this morning had been difficult, partly because by the time the news came through about cancelled flights, some of the volunteers had turned off their mobile phones ahead of getting on the plane.
She said they were waiting for confirmation of alternative travel plans, but expect to travel to London tomorrow and on to Kenya the following day.
