Jeff Weston, whose company Sports Entertainment and Media Group also looks after Arsenal football legends Ian Wright and Thierry Henry, says the association acted ‘totally unprofessionally’ and has branded them an ‘absolute shambles’.

Mr Weston thought he had sealed a deal to bring Wright to this year’s event and says he was offered £45,000 to appear – a figure he had not even asked for – but the association went back on the deal and began ignoring his calls.

Bob Pallot, the chairman of the association, has not denied the allegations but has refused to comment, saying it needed to be ‘sorted internally first’.

Mr Weston says he was shown flight details and told that Wright could bring a partner as well as another couple to the Island.

He was told that all expenses would be paid on top of the agreed fee.

The retired footballer decided to bring his own girlfriend as well as Mr Weston and his wife.

The agent was even invited to ride in a car with Wright and be part of the parade.

He has e-mails that detail everything his client was promised.
