Having entered the Masters competition, the Island side have no illusions as to the size of their task following weekend matches against South Africa, the USA and Australia.
Their debut was marked by an 18-0 thumping by South Africa, although it is worth noting that the points could well have been handed to Jersey had they issued an appeal over two unregistered players who entered the pool against them.
Sportingly, given the ease of the victory, Jersey chose not to register a complaint.
There was a slight improvement yesterday morning as the might of the USA won 14-0 – Jersey were only denied getting off the mark by the final claxon, having netted a split second after it sounded.
Yesterday evening Jersey faced Australia and again found the going tough, losing 16-0.
Jersey also face matches against France, Canada and Great Britain.
‘It’s like a Jersey football club playing Manchester United really,’ said team member Alison Norman.
‘They are so much bigger in terms of experience and ability, but we’ll learn from the experience, there’s no doubt about that.’ Thanks to the wonders of the web you can watch the action live.
