And the development of a Jersey Business School continues, with one or two potential operators having come forward in the last few months.

Chief Minister Frank Walker said that school subjects, courses at Highlands and the work of the Training Employment Partnership would be reviewed by ministers, who say that young people are not finishing their education with the kind of qualifications and skills that employers are looking for.

Too many young people are leaving schools, universities and colleges with skills that have no relevance to Jersey’s economy, said Senator Walker, adding that the more closely the skills of young Islanders match the economy, the fewer immigrants would be needed to fill local jobs.

‘We have not been matching skills and requirements of the business community as well as we could have done,’ said Senator Walker.

‘A significant number of people leave school and do not go to university and they are finding themselves unable to meet the changing demands of the finance industry.’
