The Senator believes there is a risk that the number of job losses in future could be greater if the utility company is not sold to a suitable buyer.
He said that if a new owner was not found that was able to benefit from achieving economies of scale as technology advances in the years ahead, then Jersey Telecom could be under increasing pressure from competitors and even more jobs could be at risk than if the company was sold soon.
Although the Senator said there had been huge investment in infrastructure in recent years in Telecom, he said that there would be a continual need for more investment in the years ahead.
