The Medical Officer of Health has announced that the Island will follow the UK and introduce a new vaccine which has been developed for children under two on 6 November.

Dr Rosemary Geller said it would provide excellent protection against pneumococcal infections.

The very young and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to such infections, which can cause meningitis, pneumonia, blood poisoning and ear infections.

Parents with questions about the changes should call their health visitor, GP or health protection nurse at Le Bas Centre on telephone 623729.
