Mark Oliver told a public meeting at Trinity Parish Hall last night that the extra burden of the 3% Goods and Services Tax could be enough to force the trust – established in Jersey in 1959 – out of its home.
‘This would be catastrophic,’ said Mr Olliver.
‘I could not see a future for Durrell in Jersey.
‘If I thought we could put up prices without income going down I would have done it yesterday.
The 3% has to come out of what we already get.’ Mr Oliver said the trust was already struggling with lost income worth around £500,000 per year – and that the extra charge would put their future in Jersey in serious doubt.
