With Dale Garland still recovering from surgery and Lee Merrien also injured, Jersey appeared to have their best chance in a long while to win the most prestigious Montague Burton Trophy, but they, too, will be missing potential big scorers like Lauren Thérin and Jamie Stevenson.

Guernsey’s Lee Garland has been something of a one-man team in recent times, last year competing in a whole range of individual events and the relays.

His absence will leave a big void says GIAAC president Rob Batiste, who expects it to be close in both the men’s and ladies matches.

Tomorrow features the seniors sharing the limelight with the under-115s and colts in a match that starts at 12.30pm.

Sunday is an afternoon match between the respective under-17 and under-13 squads.

That also starts at 12.30.
