Conditions were perfect with early morning sunshine drying the road surface and no breeze to speak of at the start.
Further down the field Dave Mayman continued to show the way home to many of the younger riders as first veteran and fourth finisher overall, while ‘Jim’ Davis was the first woman rider and Chris Seviour first junior.
The cars and motorbikes may do it in faster times but in terms of hard physical effort, all competing in this event beat the internal combustion engine every time.
