All the major roads that link the west to town were jammed with cars because there were four sets of roadworks on different roads within a small area around Bel Royal, Beaumont and St Peter’s Valley.
To add to the that, a sewage pipe had burst on Rue du Craslin, which links Beaumont Hill with Sandybrook, and the road was closed for health and safety reasons while the pipe was repaired.
People began complaining shortly after 9 am and roads were still jammed beyond 1 pm.
Transport and Technical Services called a halt to two sets of works to try to relieve the traffic.
Drivers who were stuck in the chaos phoned the JEP to complain and one taxi driver who was taking tourists from the Airport to St Helier said it had cost almost double the normal price – more than £20 instead of the normal £12 – and his customers were not impressed.
