Jersey Live ‘will stay in Jersey’

THE Economic Development Minister has vowed to stop Jersey Live moving to Guernsey because of policing costs.

Senator Philip Ozouf has got the issue on to the Council of Ministers agenda and in the meantime Home Affairs Minister Wendy Kinnard has agreed to defer her ‘user-pays’ proposal which would force event organisers to pay for police cover.

The States police had 57 officers on duty for Jersey Live, including nine from the UK, and the overtime and travel costs came to £31,000.

Jersey Live’s organisers have warned that if they are faced with that kind of bill, they will consider moving it to Guernsey instead.
