Rhodes 2007 U-turn for GFA

Just two weeks ago, it upheld its council’s decision not to enter a men’s or ladies side in the NatWest Island Games in June.

But yesterday, under pressure from all areas of football, including its own players, the association climbed down.

‘Obviously, I’m just really, really pleased for the players and for all of the staff,’ said island captain Matt Warren.

‘I know how much everyone wanted to play.

We’ve now got to look into some sponsorship to lessen the burden for all of the players.’ Jersey will also be sending men’s and ladies teams to Rhodes.
