The church has been declared unsafe and its congregation are currently meeting in Cattle Street’s Lyric Hall.

Church secretary Douglas Dron explained: ‘The church has a feature that is a dome in the roof, made up of glass panels an inch thick.

Unfortunately in recent years two of these panels have fallen through into the pews.’ Insurance Ronald Colback, a trustee of the church, said: The first panel fell in five years ago and we repaired it on the insurance.

However, this year a second panel fell in, which nearly killed me.
