After nearly eight hours in the water, the former Australian lifeguard came ashore at St Brelade at 4.30 pm with the words ‘I’m stoked’.

He has spent the summer working in Jersey but is returning to his native Australia on Monday in time for the summer season.

In his first attempt, a fortnight ago, Mr Blatchford (28) was ordered out of the water by the Harbours department after they became concerned that he was drifting towards shipping lanes.

He got as far as West Park from St Ouen in the first attempt, but yesterday he became the first person to circumnavigate the Island on a lifeguard rescue board, setting off from and returning to St Brelade in just under eight hours.
