Smoking may be banned in some outside areas

Under proposed legislation, it will be illegal to light up a cigarette in ‘all enclosed work spaces’.

That will include balconies and outside areas with roofs – if more than half of the area is surrounded by walls.

Any structure that hangs over an area will be considered a roof, including awnings.

Prison cells, nursing homes, and private dwellings, among other places, will be exempt from the ban on ‘humanitarian grounds’.

Hotel owners will also have the option of allowing smoking in their overnight rooms.

People will be allowed to smoke in any area that does not have a roof over it, meaning courtyards will be legal smoking areas.
